About the station
Chengdu station, commonly called Chengdu North by locals because of its location, is the oldest of the city’s stations and handles conventional services. It is not the high-speed station — that is Chengdu East (成都东).
The station has been rebuilt and modernised, but its role is still the conventional network: overnight trains toward Kunming, Xi’an, Lanzhou and the Tibetan plateau, plus regional services.
Chengdu now has several stations and the naming is genuinely confusing: Chengdu station, Chengdu East, Chengdu South, Chengdu West and Tianfu station all serve different routes. Reading the full Chinese name is essential.
Getting to and from Chengdu
Metro Line 1 and Line 7 connect Chengdu station to the city centre and to Chengdu East, which makes the cross-city transfer simple.
Tianfu International Airport is a long way south-east; Shuangliu airport is closer. Check which airport you are flying from before planning the transfer.
What catches travellers out here
- Chengdu station, Chengdu East and Chengdu South are three different places serving different routes. Do not assume that a Chengdu ticket will work at any of them.
- Locals call this station 北站 (North station) in everyday speech, even though its official name is just 成都站. If someone tells you to go to the north station, this is what they mean.
Other stations in Chengdu
Chengdu has more than one railway station, and they serve different routes. Check the full Chinese name on your ticket — not just the city name.
